Lesson 4: So you want to start an Internet Business…

So, you think it’s time for you to start your own new Internet business. Or maybe you want to market an already established business using the Internet?

As you have seen in my previous lessons, I have outlined the basic types of Internet Marketing/Internet Business. Now is the time to take action.

With barriers to entry so low on the Internet, every moment you delay means more people will start their own Internet businesses. That means more competition for you. Don’t let them take your customers and your profits.

If you are still thinking about it, well … what’s holding you back?

If you’re like most people, you feel overwhelmed. There’s so much information to absorb and so many things to do. How can you possibly accomplish it all?

The best advice I can give you is, just keep moving, follow your mind, take notes.

That’s the only way to get your business started. Because even the smallest of steps can lead to the largest of gains.

If you’ve looked into making income online, there’s a good chance you’ve seen some fancy websites. Sites that beckon with headlines like:

“Earn $1,000s While Wearing Your Pajamas”
or
“Do Nothing And Make A Fortune Online”.

I’m sorry guys, but it’s time for a reality check. Honestly ask yourself how many people you are aware of who became millionaires instantly? Not including those who hit big on the lottery, won frivolous lawsuits, or received large inheritances. But don’t give up. All is not lost.

You will have to do some work, but don’t let that scare you. You won’t have to work 80-100 hours a week or sell everything you hold dear to be successful online.

But there is something you can do to make things easier and more profitable in the long run.

That something is preparing a business plan. Yes, you will need a plan.

Sure, you may have heard this before, but it’s true. Planning will separate you from those who don’t make it online.

Before you prepare your plan, it’s a good idea to know why you want to get into Online Business or Internet Marketing. Perhaps you want to be your own boss, avoid the hassle and expense of commuting, work your own schedule on your own terms, or spend more time with family and friends.

Whatever the reason, make sure it’s your reason (not what someone else tells you) and that you have it vividly and firmly in mind. When you come to the harder parts of planning, you’ll recall why it’s important, making it easier to work through the rough spots.

Having a plan increases the odds that you will have continuing success. So take the time to make a plan that’s specifically suited for you and your goals.

In the next lesson, we’ll explore the most important decision you have to make to succeed in Internet marketing. Get this wrong and you may set yourself up for failure before you begin.
