The psilocybin mushroom is a type of mushroom that has been known for its psychedelic effects even centuries back into time. Scientists have uncovered proof that drawings in caves resemble the psilocybin mushroom- meaning that the mushroom has been used for literally centuries. But what’s the science behind such mushrooms- and what happens in the ingestion process?

Before any information is to be learned about the psilocybin mushroom, it should be noted that the mushroom is banned in many countries. Thus, one should never ingest a psilocybin mushroom unless they are sure their country supports its use. The United Nations lists the mushroom as a threat- and therefore countries such as the United States, Canada, and even the United Kingdom have strong bans on the mushroom.

If you happen to live in a country that supports the use of psilocybin mushrooms, it’s important to understand the science of how they work. Interestingly enough, psilocybin mushrooms do not have a toxic value- and thus, are considered harmless in proper doses. Likewise, psilocybin mushrooms don’t carry a dependency or physical addiction factor.

It is also important to note that even if you live in a country that has banned psilocybin, you may be eligible for medical use. Some countries have understood that the psilocybin compound can be beneficial to help treat depression, mental disorders, and even over-compulsive disorder. As more studies are conducted, more and more countries have become lenient of supervised medical use.

Psilocybin mushrooms are named after their key ingredient- psilocybin. This ingredient works to distort all of the senses in various ways. Even just 1 to 2 grams of the psilocybin mushroom can give the patient a noticeably distorted effect on their environment. When ingested, the psilocybin is turned into psilocin within the body, which is in turn responsible for hallucinations.

It’s important to note that psilocybin mushrooms can have varying effects on patients. Psilocybin mushrooms can easily give the user a bad experience. Most commonly, this is dependent upon the environment in which the psilocybin is taken. Although, other factors exist that can mean the difference between what is called a “bad trip” and what is called a “good trip.”

As far as risk goes, the psilocybin does not create addiction or dependency. Studies have been proven to show that the only factor to worry about when patients take the psilocybin mushroom is tolerance. As more is ingested, tolerance rises. This can easily lead to an overdose if one is not careful- so psilocybin mushrooms should only be taken under doctor supervision and only if the law permits its use.

The psilocybin compound is a very beneficial medical compound that has been used to treat all sorts of illnesses. But until further studies and research can continue to produce results, it is recommended that medical patients take care in ingesting the compound. Doctor supervision is necessary- and it should never be an option to ingest the compound if it is banned in the citizen’s country in which they are present. All in all, only time will tell whether or not the true benefits of psilocybin mushrooms will pan out to be worthy of critical medical reception or not.
